About this blog

I’d like you to join me on a journey. It’s a journey that will take me and my family from our home in Roskilde, Denmark, to a new one in Canberra, Australia.

Over the coming months, I’ll tell you why we decided to move down under, how we settled on Canberra as our destination, and I’ll talk you through the process of uprooting your life on one side of the world and plonking it down again on the other.

My name is Mark, by the way. By day, I’m an author and corporate writer. But in my spare time, you’ll find me scouring websites, packing boxes and researching the rules in the hope of making our move go as smoothly as possible.

Come with me. It’s sure to be a heck of a journey.

If you’re interested in reading more of my work, or seeing what I do by day, take a look at my communication and copywriting website www.corporate-understanding.com. I also co-authored the fiction title Keeping Mum which is available from Amazon in the UK, US and Australia and direct from the publisher, Unbound.

  1. Hi Mark and family, wishing you all safe travels and a smooth transition to life here in Canberra. It really is a wonderful place to live and bring up children. We’ve lived here on and off for the past 14 years and will be happy to be here for many more. I look forward to reading more of how you all settle in over the weeks and months to come. Cheers, Margot

    • Thanks Margot. Finding somewhere that would be good to raise our kids was probably our biggest consideration when choosing Canberra. I’m confident we’ve made the right choice but, naturally, we’re a little nervous too. Thanks for the good wishes. We’re making our final preparations now and really looking forward to that plane door closing behind us.
      Best wishes, Mark

    Hi mark,
Wishing you well and I believe you all now excited for the great move. You will love it here!
I myself got a job offer in Copenhagen and thinking if it will be our great move too. I have no other contact in Denmark to ask few things as part of my consideration. Such as decent suburb for family of 4 to live, cost of living etc.. Is that possible to contact you directly like email or something?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Jerry, Thanks for the good wishes. Sure, if you leave me your email address as a comment/reply to this, I’ll make a note of it without approving the comment for publication (so your email address won’t become public). Then I’ll drop you a line by email and I’ll help with what I can answer. Congratulations on the job offer. Copenhagen is one of my favourite cities in the world, and it’s a great privilege to have the opportunity to live there.
      Best wishes, Mark
